The great state of Texas DMV has, for reasons that may never be fully understood, decided to curse bless her public roads with 12 more months our monumental shit heap and perennial dumpster fire of a Ranger. [MissionAccomplished.gif]

Somehow an aquaintance’s Ram just passed inspection despite a hole in the catalytic converter and a busted panhard rod.

I got a car through an MOT (british inspection which can be somewhat strict) that didnt even run unless push started up and down the road a few times. It was a bit of a dodgy inspection place though, theyll pass anything that has functioning brakes pretty much.

whenever you get stuck having to take it anywhere, make sure you leave it parked, running, with the windows open, while you run the company errands

My FJ80 doesn’t have a catalytic converter and the oxygen sensor mounts are so full of holes that it runs super rich all the time. It passes smog like a champ. It makes me wonder what they’re even testing for.
My theory is that there are so many exhaust leaks that by the time it reaches the tailpipe there’s nothing for the sniffer to sniff.

Somehow our rain man shade tree mechanic who never speaks got the AC fixed so it is actually worth something for now... Til it breaks again. I’ve left it in the Lowe’s parking lot with the keys in it before and it was still there when I got back. Maybe the manual transmission and interior coating of dust make it unstealable.

Our state is notoriously strict for inspections. The panhard rod should have been an immediate fail.
